All it took was another lesson, and all those muscles that had bunched up in shock unfurled again. It’s always been my experience that whatever hurts after you horseride will feel better once you put your body back into position, and get those lovely, lovely endogenous opiates flowin’. So all of Thursday’s aches and pains got trotted and cantered out.
Not the greatest hour ever, the winds were shockin’, blowing dirt in our faces while we waited outside the indoor. We did a half-and-half – kids in one half, adults in the other – and I had Delilah, simply because I didn’t want to deal with Rebel’s certain reaction to the gale.
She’s gotten to be hard going, and I was scarlet in the face by the time we were done. Not from embarrassment, but from practically breaking my pelvis trying to get her to go. Nevertheless, a ‘meh’ hour is better than no hour at all, and I hope that Tuesday will shake loose the last of the cobwebs…
Back in October, I wrote about the lengths I’m willing to go to get people to buy my novel, Drama Queen, egregious links notwithstanding.
My latest caper was appearing in a panto, which was a legitimate journalistic assignment… along with an ad thrown in the programme for free [which I designed myself, sigh.]
Here it is, if you’re interested. Sadly — or not — there are no accompanying images, but I looked fetching in my maid’s cap.
The other day, I was on the bus, and it seemed to me that while it doesn’t exactly mimic the movement of a horse — well, not at all actually, not really — it seemed to me, anyway, that if I perched on the edge of my seat, I had to keep my balance using my seat.
I didn’t keep it up for long, as I was getting some odd looks.
Gotta do something, though, to get this seat thing sorted. I’ll let you know how I get on…
Don’t shop online when you’re jet lagged. You’ll buy stuff.
I found a new site for jodhs, and bought a pair… and new long stick, the current one having long since lost the wiggly bit on the end… and new boots. I know! I know! But they were one sale! And they lace up and look really spiffy!
I also bought a DVD, Enjoying Riding: Perfecting Your Seat with Tina Sederholm, which I cannot wait to watch, and a book, 100 Ways to Improve Your Riding, by Susan McBane, which I’ve flicked through. I’m having trouble leaning in on the turns, and there’s helpful advice to do with the auld seatbones, which I’m sure I’ll see in the DVD. And there’s a few other books on amazon that look interesting, I swear, I haven’t had a bunch of horsey books in ages…
Credit crunch? Recession? Sorry, did you say something?
I am grudgingly getting to like my Blackberry Storm. It’s not an iPhone [don't even get me started about trying to buy one of those godforsaken things over here], and an iPhone may very well do this, not that I’d know… anyway, I set the morning alarm, turn off the handset, and it turns itself on, waking both of us up.
I had my clock radio, which runs about five minutes faster every day unless I reset it, as back up, as well. I had my my first lesson of 2009 at 9am, and I didn’t want to sleep through it.
Back from the States-for-Christmas, my jet lag was hanging on stubbornly, and I wasn’t taking any chances. I hadn’t been riding in almost a month. Read the rest of this entry »
